On Aug. 17, CREATE for Education published a guest blog post by PEP CEO Eric Gordon entitled, "A Flourishing Workplace Starts with the Same Skills We Teach Our Students." On Aug. 24, the nonprofit shared the post with its nationwide audience in an e-mail newsletter.
In the post, Eric shares that many students at PEP are learning to manage difficult mental health diagnoses or to process difficult traumatic experiences, which makes the necessity of social-emotional learning obvious. He continues, "What is perhaps less obvious to some is the absolute necessity of nurturing social emotional skills in staff."
Eric goes on to talk about three social emotional skills he has modeled for staff that have helped nurture a flourishing culture: being present, activating aspiration, and communicating his observations.
