Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI)
is an advanced therapeutic strategy for anyone who works with troubled
and troubling children and youth. LSCI has become one of the most
critical and successful intervention strategies for working with
challenging youth. LSCI is reality-based, clinically powerful and
multi-theoretical. It integrates research validated psycho-educational
management techniques into the intervention process.
This training
opportunity certifies staff in the advanced competencies involved
in the LSCI intervention process. This includes:
- De-escalating skills to “drain-off” intense feelings
while controlling one’s own counter aggressive reactions.
- Relationship skills to obtain and validate the student’s
perception of the crisis.
- Staff diagnostic skills to determine if the crisis represents
one of six LSCI patterns of self-defeating behavior.
- Clinical skills to pursue an individual’s specific pattern
of self-defeating behavior for personal insight and accountability.
- Empowering skills to teach the child new social skills to overcome
his pattern of self-defeating behavior.
- Consultation and contracting skills to help reinforce and generalize
new social skills.
Training Design: LSCI is a five-day intensive
training experience. Faculty utilize a variety of teaching techniques
including role play, video, assigned reading and lecture. Each
participant must successfully complete a 50 question true-false
test and practical test for successful certification.
