| Supportive Programming
Usually, the children enrolled in PEP’s Day Treatment Centers
have had very frustrating experiences with school, and often associate
school with a feeling of failure. PEP understands that the programming
needs to reach children in creative ways. Outdoor education, art
and music, service learning and community-based experiences are
important components of the day treatment center experience as they
naturally integrate opportunities for academic learning, therapeutic
interventions, and social-emotional skills development.
Camping has become a very positive tradition at PEP, and is often
an area where children experience success and the positive feelings
associated with self-sufficiency. Camping is educational and therapeutic,
and day trips and overnight trips are planned for the students.
Art and music offer creative forms of expression. Each year, the
art and music Teacher-Counselors organize a special art exhibit
and performance that gives the children an opportunity to share
their work with the community, and to take pride in their accomplishments.
