Early Childhood Centers

PEP Early Childhood Centers’ (ECC) Pre-School Children with Disabilities (PCD) services specialize in helping young children with significant behavior challenges.  Nearly one-third of the children in Early Childhood PCD service have a diagnosis along the autism spectrum.

In its service to children with autism, PEP ECC place a strong emphasis on social skills, coping strategies and interaction with non-autistic peers.  Working in partnership with school districts, PEP ECC work collaboratively to help children transition into their next environment.

For each child the program is individualized, employing the methodologies that are likely to have the greatest impact for the child.  Programming incorporates elements of Floor Time, TEACCH and behavioral approaches, among others.  The environment is rich in visual cues, including social stories and picture schedules.

The constant challenge is to design a daily program so engaging, so varied and new yet orderly and stable...so meshed with the growth of the child's mind, so rich in human interchange... The teacher-counselor is the pivotal person in making such a day possible... She has to be able to do things with confidence and assurance, so that she can have the heart and mind to respond personally to children.
