| PEP Assist
The majority of children with autism are being
served within school districts. PEP Assist
professionals provide support to teachers and students
so that more and more children with autism can thrive in regular
school environments. As
a result, children with autism, many who have significant
communications challenges and limited social skills, are able
to learn in places where they are surrounded
by typically developing peers.
This exposure to peers with strong language and social skills greatly enhances the education
and development of this special
population.

The
constant challenge is to design a daily program so engaging, so varied and
new yet orderly and stable...so meshed with the growth of
the child's mind, so rich in human interchange...
The teacher-counselor is the pivotal person in
making such a day possible... She has to
be able to do things with confidence and assurance,
so that she can have the heart and
mind to respond personally to children.
