PEP Prentiss Earns LEED Certification
8/1/2012
PEP just learned that PEP Prentiss Autism Center has achieved silver-level LEED certification, making it the first green building in Fairview Park. LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a division of the U.S. Green Building Council that provides a framework for identifying and implementing green building design, construction, operation and maintenance solutions.
In order to obtain a silver-level certification PEP had to adhere to strict guidelines in a number of key areas throughout the renovation of the property. Materials had to be reused and recycled whenever possible, appliances and plumbing and electrical fixtures had to be efficient, and natural lighting had to be maximized wherever possible. The heating and cooling system had to be efficient and strategies to improve indoor air quality had to be considered. Decisions in design, construction and operation had to be strategized so as not to disrupt the neighboring Cleveland Metroparks.
After a rigorous certification process, PEP is proud of its silver-level LEED certification. Not only is PEP Prentiss Autism Center designed specifically around the needs of the population it serves, but it also complements our environment and enhances the surrounding community.
